About Us

Welcome to Bright Hound Academy. We are so glad you found your way here.

If you have a new puppy and feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice, or if you have an older dog and want to deepen your bond through training, you are in the right place. We created Bright Hound Academy to be the resource we desperately wished for when we brought home our own first puppies: a clear, kind, science-based roadmap to raising a happy, confident dog.

Our mission is simple. We want to make modern, force-free dog training accessible to every single owner, regardless of experience. You do not need to be a professional trainer to have a beautifully behaved dog. You just need the right information, a little patience, and a lot of love.

Our Story

Bright Hound Academy began with a muddy paw print and a chewed-up shoe. Like many new dog owners, our founder felt lost. The internet was a storm of contradictory advice. One source swore by dominance theory and “alpha rolls.” Another insisted that treats would spoil the dog. A third promised a perfectly trained puppy in one weekend using a shock collar. None of it felt right. The turning point came when we discovered the world of positive reinforcement training, a method grounded in decades of behavioral science, championed by veterinarians, and proven to build not just reliable obedience but genuine trust and joy between dogs and their people.

That discovery transformed our relationships with our own dogs. It also sparked a passion for sharing this gentle, effective approach with others. Bright Hound Academy was built to be a clear, calm voice in a noisy world, a place where you can find expert guidance without fear, shame, or harmful shortcuts.

Our Training Philosophy

Every article, guide, and piece of advice we share is rooted in one unwavering principle: kindness is the most effective training tool you have.

We practice and teach positive reinforcement training, which means we focus on rewarding the behaviors we want to see, not punishing the ones we do not. This is not a feel-good fad. It is the way modern animal trainers teach everything from a reliable recall to a polished competitive agility run. It is how guide dogs, search and rescue dogs, and service dogs are trained. It works, and it builds a dog who is an optimistic, engaged partner, not a frightened follower.

You will never find advice on our site that recommends choke chains, prong collars, shock collars, alpha rolls, or any form of intimidation. Science has shown us that these methods damage trust, increase fear, and often create far worse behavioral problems down the road. We believe your dog deserves better, and so do you.

Instead, we will teach you how to use food, toys, play, and life rewards to communicate with your dog in a language they understand. We will show you how to set your puppy up for success, manage their environment so good habits become automatic, and build a relationship that feels like a joyful partnership, not a power struggle.

Meet Our Founder

Bright Hound Academy is run by Alex Morgan, a certified professional dog trainer and lifelong animal lover. Alex holds credentials from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT-KA) and is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior (KPA-CTP). With over a decade of experience coaching new puppy owners, teaching group classes, and competing in dog sports including agility and rally, Alex brings a deep well of practical, hands-on knowledge to every guide.

But more than the certifications, Alex is simply someone who has cleaned up countless potty accidents, cried with frustration during the shark-bite phase, and felt the unparalleled joy of the first time a dog chooses to come when called instead of chasing a squirrel. The advice on this site is not academic theory. It is battle-tested wisdom from the trenches of real life with real dogs.
